A group of villagers in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, dragged a 20-year-old woman along the street, alleged gang-raped her, paraded her naked and then killed her after the news of the rape spread, police said on Wednesday.
The Bhopal police filed an FIR against 21 villagers, including some of the woman's kin, under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or abetment of such disappearance) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC, the police official said.
The accused, who belonged to the Bhopal zone, had beaten the woman and paraded her naked on a village road before killing her, the official said. The woman was married to a driver.
The rape and killing have shocked Bhopal, a city of more than two million people, as it is a major centre of Hindustan Motors Ltd, a big manufacturer of auto parts and motors.
The Bhopal police had filed a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or abetment of such disappearance) against 21 villagers, who allegedly raped and killed her.
